There is nothing better to find at a crossroads than yourself.
Understory
Remember who you are.
Transform the ways you look at yourself, your life, your leadership decisions.
See yourself more clearly, then at long last you can stop wondering what it means to be true to yourself.
Live more fully. Lead with love. Die with fewer regrets.
14th - 17th May 2026, Dartmoor.
Three nights on the shoulder of east Dartmoor.
Our unruly ‘big sky’ event, outside of clock time, making camp and drawing on wild mythology, elderhood and community to help people in service to future generations to do their life's work and live a life of fewer regrets and deeper meaning.
If you are a leader, founder, activist, educator or environmentalist curious about who you really are, how you make decisions and how you want to move in the world, this is for you.
Steep in nature and the wisdom of old stories, share space with like-minds and professional coaches, away from devices and clock time, to see yourself more clearly and bring new depths of courage to your life's work.
You might call it a pause to reflect. You might call it a threshold moment. We call it ancient clarity.
Peace. Wisdom. Courage.
And the heart of it all is remembering.

Wisdom isn’t learning something new,
it’s remembering what you’ve always known.

Benefits
Our routes and campfires sound out the kinds of openness and curiosity left behind in our busy, modern world: invitations to pause, feel and think carefully. To look to nature, community and myth for ancient clarity:
– See in longer timescales, rooting further down into the natural world.
– See yourself more clearly, aligning to a life of fewer regrets and deeper meaning.
– Find greater peace to love more fully: ourselves and others.
– Access the courage to do our life’s work.
And, ultimately, contribute all of the above in acts of service to future generations.

A snapshot of Understory
Small groups. Camping and wondering at the crossroads.
Forest, moors and firesides: 4 days.
This is the full sense of Recalling Fire.
Fall into the forest. Not just to experience the resin scent of pine and woodpecker’s rattle, but to steep in story, to come back to your body and your breath and your voice.
This is a chance to disassociate with the tensions and all the things building up in your close relationships – with parents, lovers, colleagues, friends – to ‘be’ in a different way.
The land is available to us. Our fires are lying dormant in the dry wood of fallen branches. The wisdom of our forebears waits for us in the pages and the songs.
We will need time. We will need night and day. We will need whatever the clouds and stars and the riverbanks give us. We will need to listen to the land.
We'll pull up water from the streams and sit until the fire burns low.

Practicalities

What is this event for?
The primary purpose of this event is to lean further into Recalling Fire’s approach of deeper self knowledge, and therefore clarity in work and life in our uncertain times. As we always say, 'Maybe, in the twilight, meet yourself'.

It's also a great moment for pause and entering a quieter, calmer way of being with like minds for four days.
To join the event we ask that you distill – for yourself and us – in a short letter, why now is the moment to bring greater clarity to your journey.
Where is the event?
On a private piece of land bordering south east Dartmoor. Details will be shared with participants in the lead up to the date.

The offer
- Three nights on a private Dartmoor site.
- Co-creating a community camp, cooking on fire, bathing in stream water.
- Leave tech, clocks and emails behind.
- Explore your life and work from a 'side on' perspective, removed from your everyday.
- Guided moorland exploration.
- Coaching around your enquiry question.
- Facilitated community gatherings: ceremony, intention, thresholds.
- The opportunity to meet others leading future-focussed projects.
- Feed your enquiry with big sky nature and ancient mythology.
We will provide firewood, cooking equipment – everything we need to create a camp – as well as practical guidance and support. Note: our site is semi-wild: a large private place with direct access to the moor. We will spend the entire time outdoors or under canvas.

Note: We will keep a close eye on weather conditions and update in the case of any changes.

The ask
- Four days of your time: Arrive 4pm Thursday, leave 11am Sunday.
– £600
– A letter of intent: "Why is greater clarity and deeper self knowledge important for you/the world at this moment in time?"
We ask that you bring all clothing and camping equipment to keep yourself warm and dry (we have some limited camping equipment available on request).

Who is this for?

Those who are committed to future focussed work: founders, leaders, activists, educators, environmentalists.
Those who know us, our close allies or those we are influenced by.
You will be familiar with aspects of our approach if you explore any of the following:
– Nature-connection/sit spot/nature solo practices.
- Mythic/mythopoetic perspectives (you might consider listening to Drop The Map by way of orientation).
– An interest in your own journey towards elderhood/mentoring/leadership.
Who is this not for?
Those with anxieties about extended time outdoors.
Those who have no active enquiry or curiosity about planet and future generations.
